Ms. White’s class celebrated Earth Day with a super fun (and tasty!) hands-on project! Students created a snack that represented the layers of nature, from rich soil and tiny seeds to busy insects and growing plants. It was the perfect mix of learning and creativity, giving students a chance to explore science concepts in a way they could see, touch, and enjoy.
Activities like this are especially meaningful for 1st graders because they help build an early understanding of how living things depend on each other and the environment. Celebrating Earth Day encourages students to care for the planet and recognize their role in keeping it healthy.
This lesson also connects directly to Texas 1st grade TEKS, as students explore natural resources, identify components of the natural world, and observe how plants and animals depend on their surroundings. Hands-on experiences like this strengthen engagement and help young learners make lasting connections to science in their everyday lives. 🌱🌍
